Rick Martin - vocals
Rick is the vocalist, leader and founder member of Quartz.
Rick, sometimes known as 'Young' Martin has fronted many bands during his musical career, particularly around the Reading area and has appeared on the same billing as Sid Lawrence, Kenny Ball, Joe Loss and numerous other big names.
He is highly respected by all who work with him as he has an infectious enthusiasm in everything he does. He has constructed and maintains all of Quartz's vast stage set and during the past twenty years has worked hard for the Reading Branch of the Musicians Union, becoming chairman in 1991.
In his early years he started out on the local music scene by playing bass guitar before deciding to make singing his forte. He has a lively stage presence able to talk and communicate with any type of audience and his smooth distinct style has often been compared to Cliff Richard.
Offstage he has recently become a magistrate (or 'Justice
of the Peace').
He often makes the joke about Quartz being able to give
the 'complete' service whenever they are engaged for a wedding!
