Trieste is approximately 30 miles away from Koper which was listed as the next port of call. However, as Koper is so close, Marella may well change the itinerary of the Adriatic cruise. Rivenna on the Italy's east coast is closer to Venice - and also Bologna.

Underground lift to the Cathedral of San Giusto

There is a lift in the underground car park beside the amphitheatre, although finding the lift to the Castello is a challenge as there are two lifts, one for the car park and one for the Castello.

The Castello lift is at the end of a long tunnel and sits under the centre of the hill. You could always test your knees on the steps on the way down but the path is not overly scenic.
