Coach transfer from airport to ship
|
|
A coach will transfer you from the airport to the ship after you
have picked up your bags from the carousel. Give them to the driver
once at the coach and he will place them in the coach's hold. The
next time you see them they will be outside your cabin.
On the trip to the port sit on the right
hand side of the bus with respect to tge driver for the best first
views of Kerkyra snd the sea

|
Bus from Corfu port into town

|
|
A shuttle bus will take you from the ship to the front of the port,
which in itself is another bus stop, so you can jump on another bus
which will take you into town.
|
|
|
Koper lift to town

|
|
There is a
glass observation lift which takes you from the port up to street
level of the town. It can be found by walking west along the road
outside of the port. It is not a particularly high-rise lift but it
is free
|
|
|
Lift to the Cathedral of San Giusto in Trieste

|
|
There is a lift in the underground car park beside the amphitheatre,
although finding the lift to the Castello is a challenge as there
are two lifts, one for the car park and one for the Castello.
The Castello lift is at the end of a long tunnel and sits under the
centre of the hill.
You could always test your knees on the steps on the way down but
the path is not overly scenic.

Documentation

|
|
You can keep your boarding pass, covid
negative certificate and your proof of vaccination on your mobile
phone (on iPhones this can be saved to your Wallet app. Some people
prefer to have the documentation as paper copies as it is perhaps
easier to display when required especially if you have organised it
into a folder. But remember a folder of paperwork does have weight
which will increase your cabin bag allowance.

Required
Documentation for your cruise

|
|
You must ensure all of your documentation
is in order before you go,
See a full list of the documentation you will need
It’s worth remembering there are two elements to your cruise, flight
and ship. Everything for the ship, including ship’s boarding pass,
is on Cruise Control. Everything for the flight, including flight
boarding pass, is on Flight Extras.
|
|
|

|
|
The procedure is that you pick up
your cases from the Carousel at Corfu airport, put them on a trolley
and take them to the coach waiting to take you to the ship. Your
cases showing the tags on your luggage (which you must attach from
prints on your Cruise Control) and showing your cabin number, will
be taken and left outside your cabin door while you are processed
through to the ship. Your cases will probably arrive at your cabin
door before you do!

Formal
Night/DressTo Impress

|
|
Formal Night/DressTo ImpressFormal Night or
Captain's Night is now called 'Dress to Impress' and perhaps dress
code is smart casual or better. This is held on the evening of an
'at sea' day once per week.
|
|
|
Storing your
empty suitcases

|
|
If you are having trouble storing your
suitcases, you may be able to get your cabin steward to store them
for you. Some people store them outside on their balcony if they
have one.

Weekly Raffle

|
|
There seems to be a raffle each week for a
ship's travel chart for your cruise with a bottle of rum or
something else. Tickets are £5 each

Visiting Kotor

|
|
If you visit Kotor in Montenegro on
your cruise, you might like to find a tour to take you down to
Perast a few miles away where you can find a boat to take you over
for about half an hour to the tiny island hosting the church with
the light blue dome 'Our Lady of the Rocks' Our tour cost in 2017
was €20.00 each for a really good tour around Kotor visiting aspects
high up overlooking the ship in the harbour and €3.00 for the return
boat ride

|
|
Coeliacs

|
|
If you are Coeliac like me,
check with your TUI travel agent before you go to make sure there is
gluten-free food available for you on the aircraft. There are gluten
free options available in most eating places on the ship (but not
the Snack Shack) and these should be well labelled. It is a good
idea to make yourself known to waiters and also ask for the
gluten-free options menu to be delivered each day to your cabin.

|
|
Pool
Towels

|
|
Pool towels are provided by Marella on all
cruises. Take or buy giant pegs with you to stop your towels blowing
away in the wind
|
|
|

|
|
If you leave towels in the bath or on the
floor of the bathroom they will be replaced with clean ones
|
|
|
Extending your cabin time on your
disembarkation day

|
|
On disembarkation days you can pay £49 to
extend the stay in your cabin otherwise you have to vacate by
8:00 or 9:00am. It may not be your original cabin. Ask Reception. You may use all of the ship's facilities and your ship card
until the coach comes to take you to the port . Obviously if your
departure isduring the morning then you probably won't need to
extend your cabin time as the coaches pick you up more than 3 hours
before your flight
|
|
|
WiFi charges

|
|
WiFi Charges :-
1 hour £8.00
1 day £15.00
3 days £25.00
4 - 8 days £49.00
15 days £90.00
REMEMBER TO LOG OFF ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED ACCESSING THE INTERNET TO
PRESERVE YOUR HOURS
"Just a heads up re the onboard WiFi- I
paid £90 for 2 weeks but didn’t check the small print - that’s up to
2 weeks to use 2400mb. I have used it up in 4 days!! So £90 for 4
days of browsing, no downloading of videos or films just browsing
and messaging. Just be aware it’s not unlimited for 2 weeks….
I don’t have a clue how many Mb I use daily and I
expect many people are the same as me"
To break it down...
The ship itself uses the Maritime Network
(Satellite) which you have to be very careful not to log onto with
your phone through your 3G/4G/5G data connection at it's extremely
expensive. This is particularly an issue when out at sea where
you're phone can't log onto land-based masts. That's why people turn
off data roaming (you don't need to do a full airplane mode).
You can purchase an onboard Internet
access package, which you can then access via ship's Wi-Fi network.
It's not cheap, it's not as stable and reliable as your home Wi-Fi,
and you need to make sure you switch-off your phone's Wi-Fi when
you're not using it, otherwise it burns through your allowance due
to your phone apps constantly updating.
Depending on your phone network provider
and where you are in the world, you can allow your phone to connect
to a land-based mast when in range or on shore, at either no
additional cost or a small additional daily fee.
Many ports have free Wi-Fi you can use if
you leave the ship, or certainly local bars and restaurants will if
you buy a drink
Again, depending on where you are in the
world, you may be able to purchase a tourist sim to use in a phone
to give you a local 3G/4G/5G data package across that region, but
again you need to avoid logging onto the ships Maritime Network.

Free WiFi
ashore

|
|
Some say Marella Wi FI truly awful and
expensive. If ariving in port and wish to contact home there usually
excellent Wi Fi in bars close to ship. In Montenegro keep your
mobile phone turned off to avoid expensive charges.
|
|
|
Electrical Power
Sockets

|
|
The voltage onboard is 110/120v AND
220/230V with both European AND American type sockets. So you will
require to take your plug adapters if you want to use your British
mains plugged devices.. Also a good idea to take a small multi skt
plug board if you want to plug in more than one appliance and also
you can now get multi socket plug boards with USB charging sockets
built in. Your phone and iPad chargers should work perfectly well.
But ensure that your plugboard is not a
'surge protected' plugboard as the are not allowed to be plugged in
on the ship as they may be a fire hazzard

Balcony -
Large vs Std

|
|
Large balcony cabins come with 2 chairs, a
table, a sun-lounger and a hammock. The balcony is 17 square meters
and is deeper back to the cabin balcony door. There is a lot of
shade on these balconies, even when your side of the ship is in full
sunlight. But large balcony cabins are slightly smaller!
On a
standard balcony you just get a table and 2 chairs and more sun.
Some balcony cabins have an overhang so you don't get so much sun.
You pay to sway! The higher the deck the higher the price and more
movement -the pendulum effect. Some rooms don't have fridges, some
do! I would think that all of the balcony rooms do.

Flight
Check-in

|
|
Check-in for outbound flights is accessible
from exactly 48 hours before your flight is due to take off. An
email will be sent to you from TUI containing a link to the check-in
page for that flight. You can either print your boarding pass or send it to the wallet on
your smart phone.
Another email from TUI will be sent to you
containing the link for your return flight. You can ask reception to
print this for you or you can add this to your Apple Wallet

Upgrading the standard Drinks Package to the Premium Drinks Package

|
|
To upgrade to the Premium drinks package
costs £60 per week per person extra. You can upgrade when you board
- just talk to Reception. But however many there are of you in your
party (as defined by the lead person who booked your cruise)
ALL of you have to upgrade at the same time. The upgrade
includes branded spirits and beers, branded soft drinks, special
wines and coffee in the Coffee Port. Also 1.5 litres of bottled
water per day

|
|
TUI
Navigator App

|
|
Marella ships use an on-board 'intranet'
which is a private website for on-board cruisers, enabling them to
book restaurants, excursions and other features of their cruise. As
soon as you board you can access and connect to this app on your
smart phone - point your smartphone browser to
navigate.tui.
There are also large screens permanently connected to
Navigator next to Destination Services for you to use.
The link
below is to a video on You Tube showing you how it all works.

TUI
Excursions

|
|
I read that TUI excursions go on sale
approximately 3 months from the start date of your cruise. You will
need to log into your booking to see them. By booking before your
cruise, the prices are lower.
If you do your own non-TUI excursions while ashore you must be back
on the ship by the stated time. If you are late you risk being left
behind. If a TUI excursion is late, then the ship will wait for you
|
|
|
Beach
Towels

|
|
The blue towels in your cabin, can be taken
off ship but are quite bulky and if you lose them you will be
charged a £10 fine.
If you plan to go to the beach, buy a Micro
Fibre beach towel - very light and easier to carry when off ship
rather than taking the bulky towel from ship
|
|
|

|
|
Straighteners and tongs are allowed -
TRAVEL Irons ARE allowed! A hair dryer is also provided
|
|

Top tip for Trieste: Don't struggle with
the excruciating steps to the castle as... there is a lift! Find the
old amphitheatre, walk along a little further and on same side of
road to your left is what looks like just the entrance to a car park
but within there is a public lift which is *free* to use and takes
you almost to the top of the hill where the castle and cathedral are
located. Others are unaware and take the steps, which is no problem
for those who enjoy a good workout of course

|
|
Taking your
own drink on board the ship

|
|
It's ok to take drink on board-
but its all inclusive with TUI!
|
|
|
Sea Sickness

|
|
Take stugeron tablets or similar with you
incase of sea or travel sickness. Ask at your local pharmacy. If you
get really sea-sick then visit the Medical Centre where you can be
treated but this will be expensive.
|
|
|
First Aid

|
|
Take a small medikit with you as medical
assistance/treatment onboard can charge £250 to apply a plaster on a
graze. But for more serious injuries or sickness, the care is
second-to-none.
|
|
|
Check
in at Corfu before returning home

|
|
When returning home. After check in, join
the passport security queue as soon as you can and at least 1 hour
before flight is due to depart. Its so long and no one tells you
about it.

Getting to
Dubrovnik Old Town and the Cable Car

|
|
Walk out of port , ignore bus station which
is on your right Continue out into the road and then walk a few
yards to the bus stop.
Buy your bus ticket at a little newspaper
hut just outside the port gates
Bus numbers 1a 1b and 3 , there may be others .. takes about 15 mins
Keep an eye out of the front of the bus and you will see the Pile gate
and walls so you'll know when to get off the bus
Catch bus back at exactly the same stop as the buses do a loop , ..
Or taxis which are a little more expensive.
The Cable car is a short walk across the road towards the Mountain.

Visiting
Heraklion Crete

|
|
When visiting Heraklion, recommend you
catch the tourist train from the port, adults 7€ , amazing value. A
tour around the city and the guide even took us all off the train to
show us further sights. Lots of time in the city and then catch
back. Excellent value.

Currency
in Croatia - Dubrovnik/Split

|
|
The official currency is Euros as it
changed in January this year so they will be more receptive to them
now instead of Croatian Kuna. Last time we had to use Kuna for the
Walls and the Cable car - not any more!!!
|
|
|
Visiting
Santorini

|
|
On the TUI trip last year to see the blue
domes, the trip was described as moderate walking with very few
steep steps . It wasn't!
Lots of walking on uneven ground and when returning to Thira you
walk up a very steep hill. However, we didn't queue for the cable
car.
There are private minibuses always selling tickets for tours to Oia
and back to Thira

|
|
Muster for
Lifeboats and Emergencies

|
|
Go to the Broadway Showlounge and watch a 5
minute video on a loop
Then go to muster station where your cruise card/cabin key card is
issued to you.
Takes about 15 mins.
There are no muster drills as on previous crusies, you just watch a
video whilst checking in and then go to your muster station to get
your cruise cards

|
